Justice Dipak Misra is currently a judge of the Supreme Court of India. He is the next Chief Justice of India and will be succeeding Justice J.S Khehar. Here are 10 facts about him that many may not know :

  1. He is the nephew of Ranganath Misra, former Chief Justice of India
  2. He is a former Chief Justice of Patna and Delhi High Court
  3. He passed a judgement making it compulsory for Delhi Police to upload copies of FIRs lodged on their website within 24 hours
  4. He was a part of the bench that rejected 1993 Mumbai Blast Convict Yakub Memon’s appeal to stop his execution
  5. He led the bench that upheld the death sentence awarded to four convicts of the Nirbhaya gang rape case
  6. He was part of the bench that ordered playing of the national anthem before the beginning of every film in a theatre
  7. He is part of the bench supposed to hear a batch of petitions filed in Allahabad H.C, challenging the Nirbhaya gang rape case verdict in the Ayodhya Land Dispute case
